THE WORLD IS OUR STAGE and MEANT TO BE SHARED!
In this world of technological advancements, we could easily lose our zeal and appreciation for face-to-face experiences that are MEANT TO BE SHARED. Social media has replaced many forms of social interactions. But most would agree that even the most innovative technology can never replace the extraordinary impact of one human being connecting with another human being through live tangible expressions of creativity. When we SUPPORT and offer a STAGE for artistic outlets to be showcased, we become the fortunate recipients of their gifts and talents. In essence, we are given front row seating to the most beautiful attributes of our humanity. This week I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Bronwyn Keith, the Director of Development for the Clark Center of the Performing Arts, located at 487 Fair Oaks Ave. Arroyo Grande, Ca, 93420. As she shared the rich history of the Clark Center, her eyes began to light up like a child on Christmas morning. Not only was her son involved in dance as a youth, but Bronwyn also expressed the joy of watching the amazing talent she has seen, a variety as colorful as a rainbow. From local artist’s displaying their masterpieces, to an array of dance performances, musicals, live theatre, renowned cover bands, not to mention world class instrumental performances, ALL contribute to the SHOW STOPPING entertainment that emanates from our beloved Clark Center of the Performing Arts.
There are so many important people to thank for the success and support of this amazing venue. Most notably Clifford and Mary Lee Clark and their family and the Kautz family. Their combined vision and passion fueled the procurement of the funds needed to create the two theatres housed in the center. The Forbes Hall, which seats approx. 600 guests and the Studio Theatre which seats approx. 120 guests. Through a unique partnership between the community and Lucia Mar Unified School District, by 2002 dreams of a community performing arts center had come true! But their commitment didn’t stop there. Several years later Bernie Kautz of the Clark Center Foundation generously handed keys over to the District Superintendent for students to utilize for productions and training in the performing arts. Yes, the Clark Center has become an esteemed place that allows youth to see the WORLD AS THEIR STAGE, embracing as a platform for professional growth and personal insight. Responsible for the fiduciary wellness of the center is our hardworking Board of Directors who make the important decisions to ensure the Clark Center is economically strong for years to come! No Performing Arts Center could succeed without the commitment of a respected Executive Director and their staff. When you meet Dave Pier, you meet an approachable man who wears many hats each day and remarkably with a smile on his face. Thank you, Dave, for the time and effort you and your staff give to our center. Lastly, but certainly not least, we want to thank and recognize the many volunteers that give time and energy selflessly each day for the sake of our Center, contributing over 10,000 hours last year alone.
In a world of fast paced interactions and days that seem to fly by, the Clark Center beckons us to STOP for a bit and give ourselves permission to experience the ambiance of live theatre and all that it offers our hearts, minds and souls. The Center’s new 2024-2025 season has been announced and is available at https://clarkcenter.org/season-brochure/24-25
Also, The Stone Soup Music Festival & Street Fair is weeks away on August 24 & 25, 2024. A community tradition that has thrived for over 30 years in the city of Grover Beach. Each August, the Clark Center gathers staff, volunteers, sponsors, and donors to cook up great musical artists and showcase local vendors. Click link for information.
