ALWAYS DRESSED FOR SUCCESS!
This week I was blessed to interview a woman that showered me with kindness and extended a warm smile from the moment I met her. As I walked into the room of a South County Chamber of Commerce mixer nearly a year ago, ANITA SHOWER, a renowned public figure here on our unique Central Coast, immediately recognized that I was, as she so eloquently put it “...the new kid in town: our newest transfer student!” 😊 I was amazed how quickly she discerned that I was new to San Luis Obispo County and, and even more impressive, the empathy she displayed through her warm welcome. Well, it didn’t take me long to see just WHY this stylishly dressed woman recognized me as a new businesswoman in the area. Anita Shower is a longtime resident and respected community leader here on the Central Coast. Throughout her years in the business sector Anita has served on numerous boards of director’s seats and as an ambassador for various nonprofit organizations that she gives so much to. Anita’s professional resume reads like a colorful and eclectic novel that you will struggle to put down for fear of missing out on something wonderful in her very next chapters.
Anita Shower, ALWAYS DRESSED FOR SUCCESS, came into this world with adventure in her spirit and an intentional heart leading the way. Born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Miami, Florida, Anita was determined from the start to make her mark in the world, and that she certainly has done! As a youth her mother, being wise and savvy and career-minded, exposed Anita and her older brother to office duties at a law firm where Anita’s mother was employed. Anita’s older brother was in love with the law. Joe moved on to college, law school, become an attorney, a judge, a Chief Judge, all in Miami, and is a mediator and partner in JAMS Meditation Law Firm, in Miami, Florida. Anita’s younger brother, John, fluent in Spanish, had that adventurous spirit and headed with the peace Corps to Quito, Ecuador for many terms. In that busy law office atmosphere Anita flourished, and as young adult she spread her wings and moved to Washington D. C. to work for the Joint Commission on Correctional Manpower and Training, and as the lead secretarial personnel for the Court Management Study. Her time in those occupations were extremely fruitful and she eventually ended her career in Washington, D.C., as a bookkeeper for the largest patent law firm in the United States. This young lady was going places and the excitement she brought with her was contagious ….and that is still very true today! 😊
Anita Shower, is a modern-day influencer and without question, a woman in our community who has made an impact in whatever arena she enters. When Anita walks into a room, she carries with her a posture that exudes exceptional manners, sincere warmth, a spirit of social awareness, and though she has the remarkable ability to gain the ear of business colleagues, far and wide, she equally is sincerely interested in what others have to say. I find that to be a very special quality in today’s culture. Despite her classy and colorful style of attire, ALWAYS DRESSED FOR SUCCESS, her demeanor is approachable and down to earth. Her heart is genuine, and she proudly stands by her personal and professional convictions like few people I know. People who are in her circle of influence would most certainly say that she is a standout citizen in our South County Region.
Anita Shower’s accomplishments are many and it is important to note a few. For 25 years she built a thriving career at the SLO Housing Authority, received her Liberal Arts Degree from Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo, California, a BS Degree from Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon, and a degree in Business and Gender Studies. Anita also pursued a Master's Degree from Arizona State University, in Phoenix, Arizona and a degree in Liberal Arts with a minor in Environmental Studies. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Leadership and Business, from Rockhurst University, in Kansas City, Missouri. Anita has hosted her own radio show entitled “The Pismo Beach Today Show”, for eleven years on KVEC920AM radio where she highlights education, entertainment, and information. She also has a passion for writing and became a self-published local author showcasing Grover Beach’s rich history. Anita currently serves on the Grover Beach Recreation Commission and many other boards within the San Luis Obispo County as well as a faithful Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Arroyo Grande. Her impact continues to be felt throughout her community as she highlights each week on her radio show, those in our community who are doing their best to add value to our Central Coast way of life. Anita always says, "I am here to serve ", a very simple insight into her heart.
I chose to highlight Anita Shower this week because I admire the way she has made it her mission to live a life of servitude to her family, friends and community! May those qualities in her be an example for future generations to live their own intentional lives and ALWAYS COME DRESSED FOR SUCCESS! 😊
