Grover Beach Continues "Buy Local" Tradition to Support Small Businesses
Building on a history of successful initiatives, Grover Beach hosted its latest "Buy Local" program during the summer of 2024, continuing its commitment to supporting the local economy. This program aimed to assist businesses along West Grand Avenue impacted by construction, encouraging residents to shop locally with the incentive of a $25 gift card for every $100 spent at participating establishments.
With a $15,000 allocation from the city council, the program concluded under budget at $13,022 while achieving remarkable results. Over 62% of the 86 businesses in the target area had receipts submitted, highlighting the community's enthusiasm for supporting local shops and restaurants. Food, beverage, and retail establishments were key beneficiaries, with 20 businesses receiving funding for $25 gift cards to reward loyal shoppers.
Top-performing businesses included Third Base Market and Spirits, The Spoon Trade, and The Planted Parlour, collectively driving significant economic activity. These results reflect the program’s value not only as a revenue generator but also as a means of fostering a spirit of community connection during challenging times.
This year’s program builds on the legacy of Grover Beach’s "Buy Local" initiatives, which have long served as a vital tool for driving economic growth and resilience. The initiative’s design—encouraging residents to invest in their community—provides a win-win solution that strengthens local businesses while keeping resources within the region.
Grover Beach's continued dedication to initiatives like "Buy Local" exemplifies how proactive efforts can create lasting impacts. As residents and businesses reflect on the success of the summer program, the city remains committed to fostering a thriving local economy and reinforcing the bonds that make Grover Beach a unique and resilient community.
